RESEARCH LEADS
Layer 3 Inference: The session highlights the global dispersion of Chaghatay literary masterpieces by examining a pristine Herat-school illuminated witness of Mir Ali Shir Nava'i's Mântiqü’t-Tayr preserved in a French national collection, connecting exquisite Timurid illumination art with Sufi avian allegory.
SCIENTIFIC SUMMARY
Episode 398 examines a manuscript witness of Mir Ali Shir Nava'i's Mântiqü’t-Tayr held in a French national collection (Oriental manuscript holdings).
The session opens with reflections on previous sessions (composite poetry miscellanies and Divân-ı İncî Hanım).
Object A undergoes detailed codicological inspection: fabric-covered pasteboard binding with edge wear, water damage along margins, and French accession markings (996 / 1513).
Flyleaf annotations reference names like İsmət Mustafa.
A focal point of the session is the visual and paleographic analysis of the opening folio, featuring a sophisticated Herat-school illuminated headpiece (təzhib / sarlevha) with intricate floral and geometric motifs protecting the Chaghatay Turkic poetic text.
The speaker reads and analyzes passages of Nava'i's allegorical Sufi masterpiece, meditating on the spiritual journey of the birds (Simurg).
Methodological standards are maintained by separating observable codicological and art-historical details from speaker commentary.
The session contributes to the master corpus by documenting European institutional holdings of Chaghatay literary monuments.
The episode concludes with philosophical reflections on historical civilizational shifts, self-reliance, and warm closing blessings.
